Is your WiFi slow? If browsing the internet, downloading, and streaming are taking longer than they should, there are a few things that could be the reason. Often, there are things you can do to troubleshoot the problem yourself. At FiosPro, we think the best thing you can do is switch to Verizon internet, but in the meantime, we have some simpler suggestions.
Here are four things that are slowing down your internet and what you can do about them.
Too Many Devices
If your internet is slow, check how many devices are currently connected to it. Often, you can view this by accessing your router through your browser. If there are devices you don’t recognize, you should revoke their access for security reasons alone. However, if there’s nothing suspicious stealing your bandwidth, shutting down or connecting your devices can help. For example, streaming sticks that plug into your TV don’t turn off because the TV is off. They just go to sleep and keep using your bandwidth. Unplug their power sources when they’re not in use.
Old Devices
Sometimes it’s not your WiFi, it’s your computer. How old is the laptop, phone, or tablet that you are using? Often older devices just can’t keep up. Your internet connection and speed might be fine, but the device you’re using can’t handle whatever you’re trying to do. If you can, test it out by trying to do the same thing on a newer device.
Blocked WiFi Signal
Where are you in relation to your router? If you have a slow connection, there could be something obstructing your signal. Position your router in an open space, as close to the center of your home or office as possible. If you have a backup disk or Bluetooth-enabled device near your router, move them to see if it makes a difference. Other signals can interfere with your WiFi, as well as physical obstructions like thick walls or metal furniture.
Not Enough Bandwidth
If none of these issues are slowing down your connection, then just might not have enough bandwidth. In that case, there’s not much you can do other than getting a new internet plan or switching service providers.
Get More Speed with Verizon Internet
Do you want the fastest, most reliable internet service available? Then you want Verizon internet. Verizon has been consistently rated #1 in speed and reliability for 12 years in a row and is the service customers are most likely to recommend to their friends and family.
